Volunteer Opportunities

Firefighter / EMT

Firefighter/EMTs respond to fires, rescues, and medical emergencies to protect lives and property. They perform fire suppression, operate emergency vehicles and equipment, provide emergency medical care at the EMT level, and participate in training, inspections, and community programs.

Requirements

  • Must meet Onondaga County Civil Service requirements
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Current NYS EMT Certification
  • Successful completion of the Firefighter/EMT Civil Service Exam
  • Must meet medical and physical fitness standards

How to Apply

  1. Apply for the Onondaga County Firefighter/EMT Civil Service Exam.
  2. Submit required documents and certifications.
  3. Candidates who pass the exam and meet qualifications will be placed on the eligibility list for hire by Fayetteville Fire & EMS.

Paramedic

Paramedics provide advanced life support (ALS) care to patients in medical and trauma emergencies. Working independently or as part of a crew, Paramedics assess, treat, and transport patients while operating advanced medical equipment and collaborating with hospitals and other agencies.

Requirements

  • Current NYS Paramedic Certification
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Strong leadership, communication, and clinical skills
  • Ability to perform ALS interventions and operate in emergency settings
  • Must meet medical, physical, and background standards

Pay Scale (June 2025 – May 2026)
$25.40 – $30.62 per hour + built-in overtime

EMT

EMTs provide basic life support (BLS) and emergency medical care to patients in a variety of emergency situations. They assess conditions, assist with treatment, and safely transport patients to medical facilities.

Requirements

  • Current NYS EMT Certification
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work 12- and 24-hour shifts
  • Must meet department physical and medical standards

Pay Scale (June 2025 – May 2026)
$21.22 – $26.53 per hour + built-in overtime
