Philanthropy and Community Involvement

involved in our community and national charitable causes

Members of the FFD are very involved in our community and national charitable causes. Each responder is automatically a member of our not-for-profit organization, the Fayetteville Firemen’s Association. The Association raises money for the betterment of the membership and contributes funds to many causes.

National Breast Cancer Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

All members of Fayetteville Fire & EMS trade out their traditional blue “Class B” uniform shirt for pink shirts the entire month of October to show support for those who are currently fighting this disease and to remember those who have lost their battle.

St. Baldrick's Foundation

Worldwide, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes and 1 in 285 children in the US will be diagnosed with cancer before they turn 20. The St. Baldrickโ€™s Foundation has funded over $200 million in lifesaving grants that focus on every major type of childhood cancer. The primary means of raising funds for the Foundation centers around the idea of people – men and women, young and old alike – raising as much money as they can prior to shaving their heads in solidarity with those children affected by cancer.

The โ€œshaveโ€ which occurs each year around St. Patrickโ€™s Day has been hosted locally by Kitty Hoynes Pub in Armory Square since 2005. In just over ten years, the event held at Kitty Hoynes has become the second highest-grossing venue in the country for the St. Baldrickโ€™s Foundation, and in 2016 the Kitty Hoynes event raised nearly $600,000 to become the highest-grossing event in the country! Slรกinte Kitty Hoynes!! In our first three years participating in the event, Team Fayetteville Fire and Friends has raised just shy of $50,000 for the Foundation, and for the last two years, we were one of the top 10 highest-grossing teams.

Since 1954, the International Association of Fire Fighters has partnered with the MDA to raise funds to help fight muscular dystrophy. For over a decade the men and women of Fayetteville Fire and EMS have raised thousands of dollars with our annual “Fill the Boot” fund drives. The money raised helps to support local families as well as fund research to combat neuromuscular disease. Visit firefighters.mda.org for more information.

Chamber of Commerce

The Department supports the local Chamber of Commerce, is a major sponsor of Fayetteville Block Parties, and regularly participates in local Food Pantry, Scouts, and youth sports fundraisers.

Santa Sunday

Each year on Sunday prior to Christmas the Department puts on Santa Sunday. Santa visits every street in our coverage area and brings a smile to the faces of hundreds of children of all ages. This is one of our favorite activities greatly enjoyed by our neighbors and our members.
